Diary of A Evohome User - Day 3

Day 3, So far so good, almost.

We have a fault showing on the hot water which showed up about 3 hours after everything was installed. Although the controller shows the fault everything still works as expected which is a bit of a puzzle.  Whilst having the fault showing is a pain it has no impact on the system so for now I can live with it for now. We can work out the issue in the coming days and having mentioned it on twitter the Honeywell team were very fast to get in touch, and whilst this was the USA team they raised a support ticket and passed it on to the UK team.

Everything else is working well and as we're only into day three the process of find tuning is still on going.  The tweaks are easy to make via the app which although lacking any sign of the slightest bell or whistle gets the job done.

Now that we've got the basics covered we've also started to play with the Alexa voice control integration.  There are mixed reviews for the Echo skill, however on first play things seem to be mostly positive however I have noticed that a couple of commands don't always seem to work.  I need to investigate this more to understand what is going on there and do some proper fault finding, to see if the issue with temperature reporting I'm seeing is a real one of it it's user error.

Over all things are looking positive, hopefully things will continue to be positive.

Diary Of A Evohome User - Day 162 (23 weeks in) - All is not well!.

Week 23, and all is not well. It's chuffing cold outside (to readers outside of the UK, that's a local expression used in northern England that makes no sense like many of our expressions) and on far to many occasions it's been bloody cold inside too!. It's chuffing cold outside, yes that is a local expression.   We've gone from loving the system to fighting it, and fighting it every day since winter arrived towards the end of November.  More specifically we're fighting the boiler, however the issues the boiler is having are caused directly by our installation of Evohome as I'll explain.  If you're thinking of installing Evohome this might be a useful read that could save you some pain, some unnecessary shivering and potentially some cash too.  Just to top things off in the last couple of days we've had a new hardware fault pop up with the Evohome system, this does not feel like the experience we wanted when we spent a small fortune to ...

Diary Of A Evohome User - Day 6

"What the hell was that noise ?" "What Noise ?" "That whirring sound that's just bloody well woken me up!" "Oh that noise, the same one that's been happening at the same time each day for the last 6 days ?, the one that's never woken you up before ?." "It's never made that noise before" "Yes it has, every day" "No it's not". And so this gentle early morning "chat" continued for the next few mins, the source of the sound identified and clarified by other various comments that could not be written here without the over use of the shift and 8 keys!. (* for anyone that has a different keyboard). OK, we need to talk about Evohome TRV's and how much noise they make. Now noise is a funny old thing, often defined as "a sound that is unpleasant or causes disturbance", based on that definition this is certainly noise rather than sound (at least for one of us).  Of course ...

Diary Of a Evohome User - Day 21 (3 weeks in)

3 Weeks, my goodness how time flies. In any new relationship three weeks is often a pivotal point. Should we think about meeting the parents or first get that all important "best mate approval" out of the way?.  Thankfully it's just heating so a lot simpler, anyway we've already been living together for three weeks so we can just carry on as we are. We've settled into a comfortable routine, get up, go to work, come home or do what we like when we want without a thought for Evohome.  Evohome just does it's own thing making sure different rooms are warm or cool as required and the hot water is, well, erm...hot. Alexa occasionally get's involved but she won't ever come between us!. It's like we've always been together, we've certainly got to the point where we take each other for granted and all after just three weeks.  Normally that would be a relationship heading for the rocks, but this is the life we wanted. If we had to keep thin...
